Shark Stewards Joins LUSH Cosmetics to Save Sharks

Shark Stewards and LUSH Cosmetics are combining efforts in Las Vegas on October 22 to educate the public about shark finning and support the Federal Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act.  LUSH Mandalay Palace will be hosting a public outreach effort to increase awareness on the harmful impacts on the ocean caused by shark fin consumption.  Based on a survey of restaurants, Las Vegas is the nation’s highest seller of the Asian delicacy Shark Fin Soup. Activists will also target restaurants selling shark fin soup and ask them to substitute the dish for a healthy alternative. Full Press release.

Battle Born! The Fight for the Ocean Comes to the Silver State. Shout Out For Sharks October 22 11AM- 5PM  at LUSH Mandalay Palace (MAP) and at all 5 LUSH Las Vegas stores. Suit up and shout out for sharks. Bring a sign, wear a costume, show you care about the ocean.  March for Sharks at 12:00PM!

Las Vegas is a major destination of tourism including exotic foods.* Casinos and restaurants throughout Las Vegas and the state are serving shark fin soup and trading fins from endangered and threatened species.
Nevada is Next. Join us in our campaign with LUSH Cosmetics to educate consumers and businesses and reduce the trade at ground zero for the USA shark fin consumption. Sign and share the petition to eliminate the shark fin trade in the United States.

Shark finning is illegal in US waters, but fins from sharks finned on the high seas, caught illegally or unsustainably by other nations are being traded and consumed in the US. These fins are imported into most US states and then sold domestically or re-exported overseas. Many countries do not have laws against shark finning laws, or like Mexico rarely enforce them, threatening migratory and endangered species like Hammerhead and Silky sharks. Shark finners or unregulated shark fisheries are profiting by trading through US ports. Help stop the slaughter by reducing the demand for this unnecessary luxury and halt the shark fin trade to help save sharks.

In 2016 Rhode Island joined 10 other US states, 3 US Territories and several other countries banning the sale and trade of shark fin and shark fin soup. Drawing attention to consumption and practices in the west is having a significant influence on consumption patterns in Asia. We need your help to track the shark fin trade and consumption to prepare for the next legislative session in 2017.
