Sharktober- Sharks and Super El Niño

October 28 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
El Nino Map
We are experiencing a  strong and historic El Niño in the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. A broad tongue of warm water and high sea-surface temperature (SST) anomalies across the central and eastern equatorial Pacific are hitting the coast of South and North America.
Sea surface temperatures in the central-to-eastern equatorial Pacific (Niño 3.4 region) have surged to record highs, exceeding +3.4°C to +4.0°C above average in peak areas.
We are experiencing Kelvin waves pushing warm subsurface water eastward, raising sea levels up to 1.3 feet in the eastern Pacific. Coastal flooding is eroding beaches and destroying homes without any storm activity.
NOAA models predict that the Central Coast & Bay Area will experience a 50% to 60% probability of above-normal precipitation, with totals tracking between 173% and 195% of average.
