Shark Stewards Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity Statement
Shark Stewards is committed to a fair, just and inclusive environment for all our employees, board and volunteer team. We embrace diversity and will not discriminate persons of race, sex, religious beliefs and sexual preferences.
In addition, as an organization that works across cultures and targeting a practice that is unsustainable, overfishing and shark finning) represented by a dish, shark fin soup, that is highly valued by a culture predominantly consisting of one race, we recognize that all cultures have practices that may be harmful based on ignorance and not intent, and will commit to work to educate without judgement. We will apply this philosophy to our own cultural practices that might be harmful to the environment or others, and endeavor to remedy that harm by altering our own practices.
We believe every member of our team enriches our diversity by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand and engage with the world, identify challenges, and to discover, design and deliver solutions.
Diversity: The representation of different and unique identities, characteristics, experiences and perspectives.
Equity: Giving everyone what they need to succeed by increasing access, resources, and opportunities for all; especially for those who are underrepresented and have been historically disadvantaged.
Inclusion: A welcoming culture in which differences are celebrated and everyone is valued, respected, and able to reach their full potential.
