Youth Receive President’s Award for Sharks with Shark Stewards

August 4, 2021

Youth from the Mount Madonna middle school and Shark Stewards advisees will receive the President’s Environmental Youth Award (PEYA) for their production of a play and video on ocean plastics and overfishing sharks. Shark Stewards visited the school and educated the students on the rapid decline of the ocean’s sharks and helped advise them on the play Save Our Sharks.

“With as many as 71% of all sharks and rays fished out in the last 50 years, sharks are in deep trouble. We applaud the youth of the Mount Madonna School for their efforts to educate and stop overfishing sharks. It is an incredible honor for Shark Stewards to advise the 5th grade 2019-2020 class in the production of the play S.O.S Save Our Sharks, and be associated with the President’s Environmental Youth Award. The video of the play and this award will help the kids and the other non-profit associations, like Shark Stewards, the Plastic Pollution Coalition and Shark Allies spread the word and save our sharks!”

David McGuire, Executive Director, Shark Stewards
