Save a Fish for Earth Day

Join Shark Stewards efforts to keep the ocean clean in San Francisco and in Southern California. Community cleanups are a great to get away from the screen and outside in nature.  Fun for kids too!

 

This Earth Day we are Speaking Out Against Overfishing. Make a sign, wear a costume, share the message for #0Bycatch and #StopOverfishing.

ABOUT

Our cleanups  focus on branded single use plastic like coca cola, straws and cigarette butts which we count and collect data and recycle what we can.
Participants are encouraged to collect their own data using the app to enter your beach data on the NOAA App on Marine Debris Tracker. The Project is Shark Stewards.
Optional- add flora and fauna (plants, insects, birds, mammals) observations  using iNaturalist.

Aquatic Park Maritime National Park, San Francisco.

  • Sunday April 18. 10Am- 1PM.  Join Shark Stewards, the South End Rowing and Dolphin Clubs celebrating the earth and ocean health for a marine debris survey, beach clean up and Bioblitz at Aquatic Park san Francisco.
Meet at the bleachers mid-park and look for the sign and sign in sheet. We have buckets and pickers for use but please return them!
Advance sign up and donations accepted for our youth program at Eventbrite.
  • Saturday and Sunday April 24, and 25th 2021 at 8 AM – 4 PM  Shark Stewards SoCal Chapter has partner with Newport Landing Whale Watching for our monthly community beach cleanup, picking up trash before it reaches our beloved ocean. Since 2015 we have been monitoring and segregating marine debris, recycling and working to reduce ocean pollution. Over 100,000 butts have been picked up. Lets make the Park smoke free!
Thanks to donations from from Home Depot & Walmart we have pickers &  buckets. We will provide gloves and trash bags but please bring your own if you have them.
Aquatic Park Crew Cleanup
BE SAFE
Be COVID conscious even if vaccinated. Please use the PPE, masks are required,.
Bring water (reusable containers) sunscreen, hat and other outdoor items you might need for the beach on spring.
We will have waivers to sign, announce Covid precautions while doing our cleanup with your Covid pod.
Please be aware of anything sharp like glass or sharps, or soiled by animal or human waste (dont pick it up) and leave sticks, branches, leaves and other biodegradable products for mature to consume and restore.
