Join Shark Stewards for California Coastal Cleanup Day, leading a cleanup with the City of Berkeley and our partners at Aquatic Park.

0900-1200 pm

Berkeley Aquatic Park is a lagoon connected to the San Francisco Bay with critical habitat for sharks, rays and other fish, and refuge for migratory seabirds.

Join our  volunteers and Cal Berkeley team maintaining the Park,  and help us monitor water quality and improve ecosystem health in the park and beyond to the Bay and Pacific Ocean.

Commonly littered on our sidewalks and streets, plastic ends up in our storm drains, flowing to Aquatic Park lagoons and ultimately the ocean.

Runoff from the street and through storm drains impact water quality resulting in Harmful Algal Blooms and fish mortality.  Our goal is to mitigate toxic impacts at Aquatic Park, and create healthy conditions for wildlife, and create the first Shark park!

WHERE TO MEET

Near the Kenneth Hayes Boathouse outside the Berkeley Paddling and Rowing Club.

Near the South Parking Lot, enter through the gate (please close it).

We will also collect data on plastic, and any observations of sharks, rays and algae in the lagoon as part of a long term monitoring effort.
