Sharks and Sanctuaries- Lecture

California Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and our Sanctuaries. How are they working and how do they protect sharks?

A look at protection measures in California and beyond, and the effectiveness of MPAs and Sanctuaries on shark conservation. As Co- Chair of the Golden Gate Marine Protected Area Collaboration, David McGuire is a committed partner in our state’s marine protection network. As part of this network, the collaborative’s mission is to help communicate the importance of Marine Protected Areas along the San Francisco and Marin shorelines and assist fishermen to comply with the regulations under the California Marine Life Protection Act.
Also working closely with the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary in the White Shark Stewardship Program, Shark Stewards trains naturalists, brings the public to the Farallon Islands and assists with the Stanford/ Monterey Bay Aquarium White Shark tagging program.
