Farallon Island Wildlife Expeditions

November 17, 2017 - November 18, 2017

Sharktober educational adventures to the Farallon Islands. Unique education and experiential excursions  through September thorugh November each year.

Join us for upcoming trips

Take a journey to the Devil’s Teeth.  Join Shark Conservationist and Naturalist David McGuire and other wildlife specialists celebrating sharks in a life-changing experience searching the Gulf of the Farallones for whales, wildlife and our finny friends. These specialized natural history tours focus on science and adventure, delving into geological, biological and historical aspects of the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and the San Francisco Bay.

Join us exiting beneath the Golden Gate for amazing photo and wildlife opportunities and crossing 28 miles across the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary on a modern day Natural History expedition.

These are Farallon Island -ecocentric expeditions. We are permitted by NOAA under the White Shark Stewardship Program.  These are wildlife experiences and we focus on sharks and shark conservation, and the marine wildlife of the Gulf of the Farallones. We are a non-profit and not a commercial enterprise, and lead specialized trips during “Sharktober.”

Directions

We are using the Silver Fox at Fisherman’s Wharf, next to Castagnola’s Restaurant on 11/18. 286 Jefferson St, San Francisco, CA 94133  Parking is located at Beach and Jones or on the street as marked.

These trips are approximately 8 hours, but can run over if we are onto something good. Watch for a confirmation email or call us at 415 350-3790 for confirmation the evening before in case conditions change.

PLEASE NOTE: our trips are ecosystem, conservation and education wildlife trips and not explicitly shark watching trips. We are one of the few outfits permitted under NOAA”s White Shark Stewardship Program to deploy a decoy and we may do so. However, we do not spend the day at the island searching for sharks. While we focus on shark biology and behavior while at the island and may possibly see a predation or dorsal fin, these are not the primary focus of our trips. If you want to join a shark viewing/cage diving trip please visit the NOAA site for conditions and recommended operators.  Once leaving the Bay our mission is to make the islands. Conditions may change and alter the destination in the Gulf of the Farallones to areas with wildlife along the Marin coastline and in the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.

We only book a few exclusive trips in the fall when the white sharks return and the weather is clement for our passengers and college students. We focus on shark conservation and the health of the entire marine ecosystem in our newly expanded National Marine Sanctuary. Our vessel and naturalist are permitted by the Sanctuary for Shark Viewing. Although we will seek and talk about sharks- these trips are conservation and outdoor marine education and not explicitly shark watching trips.

These are exclusive Sharktober trips to the Devil’s Teeth, Island of the Great White Shark. We only book in fall when the white sharks return and the weather is clement for our passengers. We focus on shark conservation and the health of the entire marine ecosystem in our sanctuary. Although we will watch whales and seabirds, and seek sharks, these trips are conservation and outdoor marine education and not shark watching trips.
