Adopt a Shark and Receive a Certificate for Christmas

December 24, 2018 @ 12:00 am - December 31, 2018 @ 9:00 am

Adopt a Shark and Receive a Certificate for Christmas!

Love a Shark!  Donate to Shark Stewards and support our policy efforts to stop the shark fin trade and protect critical shark habitat. These donations go to our campaign in Malaysia, restoring coral reefs, rescuing sharks as bycatch from trawlers and reintroducing them into the protected area at the Pom Pom Island Field Station run by our research partners.

See the trailer on the shark rescue and release.  https://youtu.be/kebz4OBBPcs

Your $100 US donation goes to purchasing a shark that would be killed for its fins, transporting and releasing at the Tropical Research and Conservation Centre (TRACC) and monitoring for efficacy elsewhere.  DONATE HERE.

Save a Shark and Restore Reef Health in Malaysia

Now, you can join us diving, restoring reefs and see your shark off Borneo.

Join Shark Stewards Director David McGuire in July of 2018 on Pom Pom Island diving (or learning how to dive) and helping with hands-on shark, coral reef and reef protection.  Stays on island include transport to Pom Pom from Kota Kinabalu, lodging at the field station, food and dive equipment for one week. TRACC teaches marine biology, and offers Basic and Advanced Open Water PADI SCUBA certifications in a tropical setting.

Shark Stewards Director David McGuire is leading a shark and reef restoration and conservation trip to Pom Pom Island, Malaysia. These trips include hands-on conservation, learning at the field station and diving. If you are not SCUBA certified dive certifications are offered by TRACC for an additional fee.

The field station lodging includes tent platforms 10 meters from the beach, or in the longhouse dormitory. Fresh local food is provided and prepared by our native staff with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.  Contact us for more information on these exclusive trips, benefitting our conservation work summer 2018. Note- the Shark Steward’s summer trip has been completed, but availability to volunteer for TRACC and monitor the reef  is year round.

Adopt a Reef System and Restore a Coral Reef for Sea Turtles and Sharks

Support our work with our partners at the Tropical Reef Conservation Centre (TRACC) on Pom Pom Island, Malaysia by constructing reef friendly systems that stabilize and restore coral reefs dynamite blasted for illegal fishing off islands in Semporna, Malaysia. TRACC uses students, volunteers and employs fishermen by constructing and installing these eco friendly and inexpensive cement and recycled bottles reef blocks at the protected area off the field station. Now in our 5th year supporting science and education in Borneo, this program builds local support for regional shark and coral conservation.
