Shark Stories: Thursday, May 24
Shark bite survivors Leeanne Ericson and Maria Korcsmaros come together for the first time to share their stories in public of how they miraculously survived great white shark attacks in local waters.
Ericson was attacked off San Onofre State Beach a year ago, and Korcsmaros survived after being bit off Newport Beach while swimming two years ago.
The discussion will include some of their rescuers, as well as experts who can shed light on the uptick of shark activity and what surfers and water enthusiasts want to know as we head into summer – is it safe to get in the water?
Panel discussion will be moderated by reporter Laylan Connelly, with special guests Chris Lowe, Ralph Collier of the Shark Research Committee, shark conservationist David McGuire, and world champion surfer Ian Cairns, who is leading an effort to implement Shark Mitigation Systems.
The event is at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 24 at the Aventura Ocean Club, 24707 Dana Drive, Dana Point.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m., $10 per person (buy here), cash bar available. Space is limited.
