We are proud to share our new documentary Kahu Manō a film on sharks, culture and traditional conservation.
Our next screening will be at the Dana Point Film Festival May 4 where we will be hosting a panel, and at the Inter-American Pacific Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) meeting May 20, where we will be advocating for gear changes to reduce bycatch of pelagic sharks and retention of endangered species.
Love a Shark Before Its too Late
A new report on The State of the World’s Migratory Species report reveals that 97% of fishes listed under the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) are threatened with extinction. Overfishing, pollution and bycatch are driving the dramatic declines.

Sharks are also in the news since summer months bring more people in contact with waters where sharks swim. Warmer waters bring rays and juvenile sharks closer to shore, with an increased odds that humans and sharks shall meet.

Surveying nearly 400 coral reefs around the world, a team of scientists documented that sharks are vanishing from waters where they were once common. This is a deeply disturbing sign that the ocean’s guardians are in even greater peril.

This month, the Congress made the penultimate step towards saving overfished shark populations and endangered sharks from extinction, by passing a bill that will ban the USA’s involvement in the global shark fin trade.
